VERITA Black Prothro

August 19, 1964 - April 3, 2024

A cherished mother, wife, friend and community leader.

Verita Black Prothro was born on August 19, 1964 in Reno, NV to Ella B. and Chatman Black. She graduated from Wooster High School in Reno and continued her education at the University of Nevada-Reno, where she earned her Bachelor's Degree in Journalism and later earned her Master's Degree of Education with an emphasis in literacy from Leslie College.

Verita was very involved in the political and legal communities of Reno and was also a small business owner. With great passion, she opened VERITAS with her mother and partner, Ella.

In August, 2000, Verita was married to Dr. David Prothro. Verita became an instant mother and enjoyed having a family.

Verita's heart was overjoyed when Skyler came into their lives. Truly Verita's proudest accomplishment of all was being his mother. The two of them had an incredible and amazing bond and cherished one another. Her face always lit up at just the mere mention of his name.

This website is to both memorialize Verita, and honor her memory by providing an opportunity to contribute to an education fund for her son, Skyler.

Please Read

While we all know him as Skyler, his legal name is David Skyler Prothro and the 529 plan has to be in his legal name as it’s linked to his SSN.

This account was set up by Skyler’s older sister, Nicole Prothro.

For these reasons, on UGift when you enter his gift code, it will say David P as the student and Nicole P as the account owner.

If you have questions or need help making a contribution, please contact Nicole Prothro at nicoleprothro@gmail.com
